If you know me, you know that I find a way to theme or brand everything I do. It's just the way my brain works and how I wrap my head around a project. So, when this cabin thing started to come to life, I was on the hunt for inspiration.
I loved the idea that our cabin was directly across the lake from my sister's - evoking the old boys camp vs. girls camp vibe - a moonlit paddle away to mischief.
The name Girls Camp came easy, but defining the style needed some work. I like to have a visual element for every project that I can hone in on and build off of. The search began...
A bit of research (Pinterest and Google image searching) and Camp Fire Girls started to speak to me. I grew up with Girl Scouts, but Camp Fire Girls started a couple years earlier (1910) as an alternative to Boy Scouts for girls and was heavily influenced by Native American culture.
There was a spinoff novel series published from 1912 to 1930 recounting the adventures of the Camp Fire Girls and most book covers feature three girls, which seemed fitting, and I could envision a framed cover collection. I debated purchasing a set from eBay or Etsy, but thought they will serve as a great item to hunt for antiquing when the world turns around #futureproject.

Traveling deeper down the rabbit hole I discovered a listing to an original copy of the Camp Fire Girls Manual on eBay and was delighted to find this inside page print of the Law of the Camp Fire. This is it! Love the hand painted lettering, symbols, and more so the values:
Seek Beauty
Give Service
Pursue Knowledge
Be trustworthy
Hold onto health
Glorify work
Be Happy

Framing this small print wouldn't do it justice, so more on how we're striving for big art on a small budget next week.
For the general design theme of the house, we're aiming to thread the needle with a blend of vintage and modern comfortable cabin vibes. How's that for a succinct vision? I have a very crowded Pinterest folder of ideas, but wanted to share 'Pin from an Apartment Therapy home tour by Adrienne Breaux which I always come back to for inspiration. Turns out we're aspiring to be Danielle and Ely Franko, owners of the Hunter Green House, and successful Instagram/bloggers - @thehunterhouses & www.thehunterhouses.co if you'd like to follow their story.
Have a read and check out additional pics of this Catskills cabin to see where my head's at...
